Without a doubt one of the best DVD releases this month, the incandescent documentary How To Survive A Plague is coming into disc format this 31 March, courtesy of UK distributor Network Releasing. If you missed this from cinemas last year and cannot wait to see this on your own screens, now is the perfect chance as The Moviejerk is giving away two (2) DVD copies of this brilliant, incisive work which may be the most definitive AIDS-crisis doc you need to see. Read the full review.
It’s a gripping, heartbreaking look at the HIV epidemic in America during the 1980’s, where a group of activists had to confront the entire American system of government, health care and pharmaceutical companies to wake up and do something about the human crisis that was killing thousands of people in the country. As relevant as it is now, the documentary is, more importantly, a searing ode to human activism at the face of insurmountable odds, blatant bigotry and barely suppressed homophobia from a system that quells progress for capital gains. I dare you not to choke up halfway through this blistering work, and not feel tremendous admiration for these brave men who, despite of their ailing health, charged an epic fight for social and political change.
