If you’re sick of the awards season and would fancy yourself watching a socio-politically relevant docudrama, then watch the Swiss film The Circle by entering into this competition, which – if you’re touched by luck and good fortune – would win yourself one of the three DVD copies The Moviejerk is giving away to this site’s beloved readers. That’s right – to celebrate the release of Stefan Kaupt’s The Circle on DVD, the kind hearts and coronets of Rabbit Publicity and Matchbox Films have elected to award three (3) discs to three of our lovely film followers. And you thought Christmas is over?
Unlike the other historical gay-themed film last year The Imitation Game, which features a gay protagonist who struggles through societal conventions and political conservatism, The Circle isn’t deliberately pitched as a blatant Oscar bait but rather genuinely wants to educate us that people were actually condemned and criminalised due to their sexuality by the extreme right-wing retards that run European society throughout half of the 20th century. That said, this is a fascinating attempt to shed light on those times, blending documentary and reconstruction to give us a protrait of an era when freedom of expression was threatened by political and religious forces. Flashforward to 2015 and little has changed. Read my full review here.
Enter now to win! Competition ends on Monday, 2 February. Open to UK residents only. Sorry, world.
