There’s no other director in cinemalandia who does quirky better than Wes Anderson. The man probably consumes ‘quirk’ for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And then enjoys a bit of whimsy for afters. His latest cinematic dish Moonrise Kingdom looks like from the Signature Anderson Menu – yellow palettes, idiosyncratic humour, slow motion, groovy French soundtrack, childhood brouhaha and Bill Murray. Just don’t expect Anderson to make gritty cinéma vérité – this guy sticks to his own style like superglue to a wall. Which makes him just wonderful. If you haven’t seen The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore and Fantastic Mr. Fox, then you’re in for a treat. (Damn it, I even enjoyed the self-indulgent The Darjeeling Limited.) Check out the retro-tinged screenshots and trailer below.
“What kind of bird are YOU?”
Said ‘bird’ looks confuzzled.
Charming Amelie-esque palette.
I can hang this shot on my wall. That font might just steal the entire movie and run away with it.
Edward Norton + scout costume +bunch of scout boys = frickin’ adventure!
Kids do the best wisecracks in Anderson movies.

McDormand channeling her Fargo look.
Tilda Swinton bringing her awesomeness to the proceedings.
