Sony Pictures rolled out the carpet (blue, this time) for Men In Black 3, so the likes of Will Smith, Josh Brolin, Emma Thompson and a posse of mod-60’s go-go dancers could strut their stuff around Leicester Square. It’s not exactly Mad Men retro cool – hell, there are extraterrestrials involved here, but MIB 3 promises a time-travel lurch back into the days of Andy Warhol, The Beatles and crazy Clockwork Orange furniture. Personally, I’ve quite enjoyed the first Men In Black instalment, quite bonkers but unabashedly fun mainstream entertainment, a deft balance between sci-fi and comedy. The second one was borderline disastrous, let’s face it. How this third premise pans out is left out there for scrutiny. Oh, and it’s got Emma Thompson dipping her toes into alien territory, and Josh Brolin makes a rather well-calculated, stony face impersonation of Tommy Lee Jones.
Shout out to the tireless folks of The Big Picture for covering the premiere.
Men In Black 3 will be reviewed when it gets into the Moviejerk radar soon.
